Biggest Full Moon This Year

Friday we witnessed our biggest full moon of 2008. The Earth, Moon and Sun are held together by gravity. This keeps them in an orbit where neither collide but keep in a natural movement. This keeps us moving around the sun and the moon going around us. The moon takes a trip the whole way around Earth every 29.5 or so days.

Now normally the moon is around 380,000+ kilometers away from us. On Friday however it was only 350,000 kilometers away from us. The moon was also 14% times bigger and 30% brighter, according to NASA’s research. Now as the moon controls how the tides move, as it was closer the tide was higher.

Below are some moon facts you may find interesting to read!
1. The moon is always moving away from Earth; but interestingly it only moves 4cm a year. However the part I found really cool is; as the sun continues to get bigger it pushes the moon back towards Earth. This will eventually cause too much pressure and the moon will deteriorate and break apart.
2. As many of you will have heard, some star signs are effected by the moon; thus turning them crazy! This is a false statement and no real proof has been shown towards this accusation. There is also no such thing as werewolves coming out on a full moon; or at least I haven’t seen any ;) - there always is a chance
3. Due to high tides caused by the full moon; there is more pollution on beaches.

You can see a video of the full moon below:

The Future Of Technology

Hey again, I’ve done some good posts today; I thought it would be best to keep it going while I have ideas running through my head. Anyway, I just had quick thought after thinking about the blog itself for a while. The answer itself was in what this blog is about; the future of technology. So I set out to find some good answers to what the future of technology holds and what we can expect to see. I have constructed this list with both personal and group views on the matter. As always you are all free to leave answers and comments with opinions or whatever. Have fun and let’s see if we can get a huge list together. Anyhow, here is mine check it out and see what you think!

  1. Energy use and evololution - I see us creating new and better uses then fuel/oil. We have already started in fact; solar powered cars and battery powered items as well. I don’t think it will be long until we substitue fuel once and for all!
  2. Possibly solar powered appliances for home use. So we could have roofs that absorb the solar power in order to give us the energy to run appliances around the house and offers. I also don’t think this is too far away as they have started to do this a little; I just want them to go through with it.
  3. Better recycling plants - something that really annoys me is that all the waste goes straight to the dump or oceans where pollution is created. Surely there has to be a recycling factor for all the rubbish just being dumped. What if we could use old plastic bags and create new parts for say toys are something. Any little bit helps; especially considering it helps clean up the place!
  4. Cars that run on micro-waves that are below the roads surface. This would allow drivers to have an automatic drive where they would only be allowed to go a certain distance before they had to stop. This would reduce power use with traffic lights and make for a much safer drive. Sure it would take a lot of time to introduce; but imagine how safe the roads would be and how much power could be saved.
  5. Apart from all the above, there will of course be additions of flying cars, time machines, microscopic laptops, hover boards, holographic phone calls, robots, talking animals, life on other planets and so on. I recommend you all watch stuff like Futurama, Spy Kids and Back to the Future. Should give you all some more ideas on this kind of thing. Hope you all liked my coverage; feel free to add anything by commenting below.

Do Aliens Exist? - Part 2

This is continued on from the first post; I hope the reason you’re reading this is because I got your mind ticking over from the first post. Anyway, this post is as said a continuation and I will go into a little more detail in the complex stuff. Read over this carefully and make sure you get your head around what is going on - this can be a little hard to understand so you need to try your best to get through it. Once again; if you have opinions or questions feel free to leave them in the comment box below.

Life In Extreme Circumstances
Everywhere (and I mean everywhere) a scientist or natural discoverer may go, they find life in the most extreme circumstances. Whether it be under ice, in the desert, in the jungle, in the dark oceans or even in blistery conditions - life has all ways been found on Earth. So this means, life can be found in the toughest of conditions; with the way Earth is panning out, it is only going to get worse - yet there will still be life! Now, some microbes on Earth put under extreme conditions; could live in the hot surface of Mars. These findings have made scientists thing about whether Aliens really do exist. The only thing we think they would need is water.

Aliens Have Visited?
Now wouldn’t that persuade some of you? What if I told you aliens had already visited Earth? Well from recent studies; around half of the USA believe that aliens have already visited us! Viewers/witnesses have provided pictorial and visual proof of UFO’s visiting Earth’s layers. However, head scientists studying then matter have dismissed all claims. Although, people still visit Roswell, N.M home of a reported UFO crash 60 years ago.

In Conclusion
Whether it is true or not, no one has yet to prove it. I do however put myself in the group of people that believe in aliens as there must be life out there.. somewhere. Until next time - over and out!

The Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO has set itself a new goal. They are set to launch the WTM Satelite on the 20th of December. The satelite was created by the French; specifically designed for communication in space. It took a total of 26 months to build, just over two years. It also weighs over 3000 kilograms; it is the heaviest built satelite by the IRSO.

K.R. Sridhara Murthy, Managing Director, Antrix Corporation (ISRO’s bartering arm) said the advice accessory has been congenital for European EADS Astrium, an accessory of the EADS, and is currently ability barrage preparations.

Murthy added added that ISRO’s adequacy to accommodated the best of the requirements accepted by the barter in the assured time aeon would absolutely advice the organisation to win added affairs in the future.

India has now been put into an exclusive lunar club; members include: Russia, USA, Japan, China and European Space Agency. The satelite Aditya is also going to be launched soon enough; it is mainly designed to study the sun. India also has high hopes of sending an astronaut to the moon by 2012 and a manned ship by 2020.

The Star of Bethlehem, possibly one of the most recalled happenings in the Christmas story; it is widely celebrated in books of Jesus, mainly in the bible and other Christmas stories. Now, scientists and astronomers have had to bring up the issue whether it was all because of the new born maybe king; or was it linked to some kind of happening amongst stars.

They cannot answer whether it was specifically there for Jesus, but they have come to a well explained answer about the start having some kind of appearance due to an astronomical event. The Star of Wonder labeled by ancient people in that time; has brought about in interesting story.

What has been said to believe is a few planets and one of the brightest stars came together. Also, it didn’t happen on December the 25th as most have said; rather June the 17th sometime in 2BC. Now the June Christmas star made a huge hit, but it got an even bigger boost when astronomer Dave Reneke, ran a few scans back around the time and certified that the pattern was almost identical.

Spaceflight With No Space Shuttle

1981 began the year of the Space Shuttle. Now the retirement of rather dropping of the Space Shuttle will leave NASA in a precarious position. They will not be allowed to have human spaceflight’s until the period is over in which their next plan can be started. This leaves a minimum of 5 years in which NASA get rid of the Space Shuttle and start and finish the new replacement.

Barack Obama has committed to authoritative investments that will abate this 5 year gap, and to minimise assurance on adopted amplitude capabilities. He additionally promises to assignment with the US amplitude industry to absorb its workforce and abstruse capabilities during the alteration from the shuttle to its new program.

Obama additionally affairs to advance through development of the Shuttle’s almsman systems in the face of difficulties brought about by the Bush administration’s credible beneath allotment of NASA.

Stimulating efforts aural the (US) clandestine area to advance and authenticate spaceflight capabilities is additionally on Obama’s hitlist. NASA’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services which bankrupt the NASA attitude by agreeable entrepreneurs from SpaceX and Rocketplane-Kistler in 2006, is a captivated up as a archetypal of this affectionate of accessible - clandestine collaboration.

Coal Made Into Oil?

Yes, you heard right this idea came along when the DARPA made a press statement on making coal economical and environmentally sound. This brought about a decent argument; considering the US use something like 250,000+ barrels of fuel on their own. Meaning they rely on their neighbours, surrounding countries and other foreign countries to suit their needs.

However the interesting part is the US has almost 300 billion coal reserves. Now if you could convert that to fuel, you would have enough to fuel the entire world; as well as cut out the neighboring countries.

The Fischer-Tropsch process used in the 1940s by Nazis who were known to create liquid fuel using the method. This does however indicate that it may not work all the economically. Times were desperate and oil had dried up in Nazi Germany; thus they were out of resources and used this as a last resort.

A Google chase for ‘liquid coal’ offers little comfort. Coming in at cardinal 3 is “Liquid Atramentous is a Bad Deal for Global Warming”, while at cardinal 6 is “Why Aqueous Atramentous Is Not a Viable Option to Move America Beyond Oil”.

The US Air Force itself wouldn’t hesitate to agree: on 5 August they arise to be on the border of abandoning their own attempts at converting oil to coal. Time will acquaint if DARPA succeeds in the area the US Air Force have previously not done well in.

Antikythera mechanism, is a clock type of object that was found more then a hundred years ago amongst an Ancient Greek wreck. It was made of meshed cogs the appeared to be what made the clock work.

The Greeks however had created something well ahead of its time. And somehow all this was lost along the way, through stories it wasn’t mentioned until it was found. Jo Marchant however the author of Decoding the Heavens explains the story of how so many had tried to crack the Antikythera mechanism over the past century; but failed to so. It is a great book about the greed of scientists, the love of it and the all around battle between them.

Michael Wright has created something which you can watch in the above video; it is basically a cover for Jo’s lack of detail on how the Antikythera mechanism works, how the clogs come together and so on. Of course this is not an actual piece of technology found, but it is something created that is extremely similar to those the Ancient Greeks may have used. This explains how each cog fitted together and and demonstrates clear diagrams on how it could have worked. You must watch the video!
